The Langham Huntington, Pasadena Awarded EarthCheck Silver Certification for Environmental Practices
World’s leading sustainable travel and tourism organization recognizes hotel’s achievements
PASADENA, Calif. – March 9, 2011 – The Langham Huntington, Pasadena is pleased to announce that its commitment to environmental practices has been recognized by EarthCheck (EC3 Global), the world’s leading sustainable travel and tourism certification organization. The EarthCheck Program is widely regarded as the world’s most scientifically rigorous, measuring key environmental indicators such as energy and water consumption, total waste production and community commitment.
Only those companies that can demonstrate operational practices that adhere to the highest environmental standards receive the much-coveted Silver Certification. Prior to receiving certification, The Langham Huntington, Pasadena successfully benchmarked its operations using the EarthCheck tool. This involved the hotel submitting a year’s worth of operational data and having it compared to that of other organizations that are similar in kind. The EarthCheck Program uses more than a decade of factual, operational data submitted by over 1,000 companies in more than 60 countries. By taking such a holistic view of company practices, The Langham Huntington, Pasadena was able to identify where it was out-performing and where room for improvement remained.
The majority of Langham Hospitality Group’s portfolio is currently recognized by EarthCheck. Langham Hotels in Auckland, Boston, Pasadena, Melbourne and Hong Kong are Silver Certified, while hotels in Hong Kong and London have Benchmarked Bronze status.
“I am delighted that The Langham Huntington, Pasadena has achieved Certified Silver status,” said Stewart Moore, CEO of EC3 Global. “The hotel recognized a maturing of the science behind climate change and environmental sustainability, and has chosen to apply the highest possible standard to its practices.”
“It is with great pleasure we accept our EarthCheck Silver Certification status,” said Steven Landon, Director of Engineering and Green Team Champion at The Langham Huntington, Pasadena. “This is a direct result of the commitment of our staff, visitors and key stakeholders to reduce, reuse and recycle, and to push the hotel and ourselves to be the best in the field.”
