The Langham Huntington, Pasadena Benchmarks Environmental Practices with EarthCheck
World’s leading sustainable travel and tourism organization recognizes hotel’s achievements

PASADENA, Calif. – June 17, 2010
– The Langham Huntington, Pasadena is pleased to announce that its commitment to environmental practices has been recognized by EarthCheck (EC3 Global), the world’s leading sustainable travel and tourism certification organization. The EarthCheck Program is widely regarded as the world’s most scientifically rigorous, measuring key environmental indicators such as energy and water consumption, total waste production and community commitment.

Using the EarthCheck tool, The Langham Huntington, Pasadena committed to benchmarking local environmental and social issues such as biodiversity conservation, environmental investment and enhanced community socio-economic benefits. The process involved submitting a year’s worth of operational data for comparison to that among similar communities. After review, the hotel achieved Bronze Benchmarked status. The Langham Huntington, Pasadena is the final hotel in Langham Hotels International’s portfolio of owned properties to be Benchmarked by EarthCheck. Langham Hotels in Boston, Hong Kong, London, Melbourne and Pasadena are Bronze Benchmarked, and The Langham in Auckland is Silver Benchmarked.

“I am delighted that The Langham Huntington, Pasadena has achieved Benchmarked status,” said Stewart Moore, CEO of EC3 Global. “The hotel recognized a maturing of the science behind climate change and environmental sustainability, and has chosen to apply the highest possible standard to its community. The Langham Huntington has emerged as an example of a community organization committed to environmentally sustainable living, and the EarthCheck logo serves to demonstrate that its claims are credible.”

“It is with great pleasure we accept our Green Globe Benchmarked Bronze Status as verified by EarthCheck’s global certification,” said Steve Landon, Director of Engineering at The Langham Huntington, Pasadena. “We not only passed the initial certification to become benchmarked against other hotels of our size and caliber, we have exceeded the baseline level in 9 of 10 areas. This is a direct result of the commitment of our staff, visitors and key stakeholders to reduce, reuse and recycle, and to push the hotel and ourselves to be the best in the field.”
